From the frontier labs’ perspective, it’s pointless to sell AGI to consumers. Here’s why.
The recent launch of GPT-5 left many turning bearish on AI progress. The reactions range from "it's all about to crash now" to “fast takeoff scenario is ruled out”. The Information even called GPT-5 as the beginning of “trough of disillusionment” for LLMs.
But these reactions are flawed, because they mistake GPT-5 as the correct proxy for the state of frontier models, or OpenAI’s model research capabilities.
